The ADHD Iceberg
The ADHD iceberg is a metaphor that illustrates how attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) extends way beyond its visible symptoms.
Above the surface, we see individuals presenting behaviours such as impulsivity, inattention, and hyperactivity. However, beneath the surface lie numerous underlying factors, including executive function difficulties, emotional regulation challenges, and self-esteem issues.
By familiarising ourselves with, and understanding the ADHD iceberg, we come to recognize that ADHD is a lot more complex than one might believe. It reminds us to be mindful that it affects various aspects of a person's life and not just what's visible to us on the outside.
